Carmen McLean is a seasoned general litigator and trial attorney representing corporate clients in difficult criminal and civil litigation in federal and state courts. She has represented several multinational companies under investigation by the United States Department of Justice and international competition authorities related to allegations of bid-rigging, price-fixing, and market allocation, including clients in the automotive parts and marine hose industries. Carmen has continued her representations of these companies in related civil class action litigations.

Carmen also has represented many clients in state and federal actions regarding contract disputes and related torts. For example, she has litigated matters regarding successor liability related to environmental remediation, if a new business violated a noncompetition agreement, and licensing required for the digital streaming of music.

Carmen counsels and provides CLE programs to clients and colleagues, internally and externally, on electronic discovery strategy and legal requirements, including litigation holds, cost and timing considerations, ethics, spoliation, social media, predictive coding, search terms, and the 2015 amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. She is the partner in charge of electronic discovery counseling in Jones Day's Washington Office.

Carmen provides legal representation to those who wish to provide safe and permanent homes to at-risk children in the District of Columbia. She was on The Children's Law Center's board of directors from 2009 through 2015 and is now on their emeritus board. Carmen is the partner in charge of pro bono and public service for Jones Day's Washington Office and is co-chair of the Washington Office diversity committee.
