Stefano Macchi di Cellere practices cross-border competition law, acting in merger and cartel cases before the European antitrust authorities; representing global enterprises in pre-merger notification filings and second phase proceedings; defending clients in dawn-raid investigations, agencies' enforcement actions, and abuse of dominant position claims; and negotiating leniency settlements and remedies. He leads the Italian Antitrust & Competition and Technology, Media & Telecommunications practices of Jones Day.
Stefano assists multinational groups on concentrations, joint ventures, and commercial trade transactions and has handled numerous M&A acquisitions with complex competition law implications in a wide range of manufacturing businesses, from biotech, pharmaceuticals, retail, and household and consumer products, to telecoms, transportation, automotive, aerospace, and energy.
He is qualified to stand before the EU Commission in Brussels, the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, the AGCM, the TAR, and the Supreme Court of Cassation in Rome, as well as the OFT, the Competition Commission, and the Competition Appeal Tribunal in London. He frequently argues competition appeals and pleadings and litigates private damages, unfair competition, and intertwined licensing and intellectual property disputes. He advises on anticompetitive behaviors and compliance programs and policies, also providing legal opinions on antitrust matters and attending company board or association meetings when requested to oversee adherence.
He gained extensive experience in the telecommunications and media sector assisting international clients since the liberalization of the industry, working with operators involved in fixed, mobile, and satellite networks and services and advising corporations on radio and television broadcasting, information technology, and internet communications.
