Stéphane began his China practice in 1988 while working at the Paris office of Paul Weiss. From 1990 to 1993, he was in charge of Asian-European investment projects at the international department of Bureau Francis Lefebvre in Paris. In 1994, he moved to China to co-head Gide Loyrette Nouel's Beijing office, and in 1998, he became managing partner of Thieffry Associés' office in Shanghai.
Stéphane's practice covers a broad range of international business law and tax, and he has substantial experience in various types of projects and transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, direct investment projects, technology transfer deals, cross-border goods and/or services, and supply contracts, etc. The many industries with which Stéphane has been involved include the automobile, construction, telecommunication, satellite transmission, semiconductor, construction materials, metallurgy, IT, advertising, textile, retail, energy, water treatment, and publishing.
Stéphane regularly represents major French, American, and Taiwanese industrial and service companies. His clients include Lafarge, Carrefour, Sain-Gobain, TotalFinaElf, EDF, GDF, Bull, Danone, France Telecom, Renault, Air Liquide, Alcatel, Rhodia, Aventis, Citroën, Bouygues, Générale des Eaux, LVMH, Crédit Lyonnais, Netaxis Banque and BNP, WorldSpace, R.R. Donnelley, Cooper Tire, Libbey Glass, Occidental Petroleum, Sealed Air, Grainger, and Fresenius Medical Care.
Stéphane speaks and writes frequently on Chinese labor law, company law, construction law, tax, intellectual property protection, foreign exchange, and real estate. A native speaker of Shanghainese, he also speaks Mandarin, French, and English.
