May 2008

Los Angeles partner, Brian A. Sun, has been named among "The 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America" by The National Law Journal. Candidates were nominated by NLJ readers and selected by NLJ editors as among those minority lawyers who have had a national impact within their legal fields over the past five years.

Mr. Sun's practice focuses on complex business litigation and white-collar criminal defense. He has successfully litigated a wide range of complex business cases for Fortune 300 corporations, and his criminal practice includes all types of business crimes. As an assistant U.S. attorney, he served as head of a multiagency federal task force targeting sophisticated money laundering operations in the U.S. and abroad.

In 2006 Mr. Sun led a team of Jones Day lawyers in obtaining a landmark settlement in Dr. Wen Ho Lee's six-year legal battle with the U.S. government seeking compensation for the unlawful and harmful leaks disseminated to the press by government officials during the investigation of security lapses at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the 1990s, where Dr. Lee was employed as a nuclear physicist. The suit resulted in an unprecedented $1.645 million payment by the government and several major media organizations in Dr. Lee's favor.
