Max Thorneycroft's practice focuses on public and private M&A bids, and he has a wide range of experience in domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, initial public offerings, and other capital raisings and buyouts. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he advised Hanson on all of its major acquisitions and disposals, including the Imperial Group and Consgold bids that were then the largest bids in the U.K. market.

More recently, he advised the management of WRG Limited in the £1.4 billion sale of Waste Recycling Group Limited to Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas S.A.; the shareholders of Product Support Limited in the management buyout of the company backed by Northern Venture Management Limited and Royal Bank of Scotland; Spectron Group plc on its £70.35 million sale to Imarex ASA; and Sibir Energy plc on its £456 million acquisition of interests in Moscow Oil and Gas Company from the City of Moscow, its joint venture with Gazpromneft relating to the Moscow Oil Refinery, and its disposal of a 25 percent stake in STBP Holdings Limited to TNK-BP for $152.7 million.
