Jerre Doak has defended America's leading companies in 130 proposed class actions in 40 states. Those cases have involved internet sales practices, computer software, medical monitoring, privacy statutes, consumer fraud statutes, personal injury, product liability, equitable claims, and a variety of statutes, including the Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA), the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), ERISA, and RICO.
Increasingly, these cases pose a threat of catastrophic liability, with plaintiffs' counsel seeking hundreds of millions (and sometimes billions) of dollars on behalf of a proposed class. In this environment, it is important to have lawyers who know how to win the case, not merely settle it. Jerre has a proven track record of defeating class certification or prevailing on the merits. Since 2000, Jerre has been lead counsel in more than 60 proposed class actions and only four were settled. All of the other cases were denied class certification or otherwise defeated in the litigation process.
Recently, Jerre represented Computer Sciences Corporation in a class action involving computer software and the insurance market, the Washington Division of URS Corp. in a class action involving the flooding of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, and Experian in several class actions involving privacy, internet marketing, and credit reporting. Jerre also has represented ConsumerInfo.com, E-Systems, General Motors, J.C. Penney, Maybelline, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., TRW, and USAA. Jerre's pro bono activities have included representing the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity and serving on the board of councilors for the University of Dallas.
