Jones Day's Hilda C. Galvan receives 2017 La Luz Award from Dallas Hispanic Bar Association

October 2017

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Hilda C. Galvan, Partner-in-Charge of its Dallas Office, has received the prestigious La Luz Award from the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association. She will be recognized on October 28 at the annual Noche de Luz gala, which highlights the DHBA's scholarships and diversity pipeline programs.

The La Luz Award is the DHBA's highest honor and is presented to a person who has made significant contributions to the Dallas legal community by serving as a trailblazer and lighting the way for the success of the Hispanic community. A recipient must demonstrate inspirational leadership, courage, integrity, and a commitment to assisting others. The DHBA President noted that Ms. Galvan's "professional accomplishments stand as a model for all Hispanics, demonstrating that there is no limit to how much we can achieve" and that her "commitment to promoting and supporting diversity in the legal profession – both through recruiting and mentorship at [Jones Day] as well as in the Dallas legal community in general – is without exception." She added that Ms. Galvan embodies the traits of a trailblazer and never hesitates to take on opportunities to assist others.

Ms. Galvan is a nationally recognized trial lawyer who focuses on complex intellectual property litigation and represents plaintiffs and defendants in federal and state courts across the country. She has served as lead counsel for companies in the enforcement of their patent portfolios as well as in defending against allegations of infringement. Chambers noted, in 2016, that she is prized by clients for her ability to "bring experience and strategy" to IP disputes arising in the electronics and software sectors. She received a J.D. from the University of Texas and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Ms. Galvan places a high priority on community service. She is chair of the board of the Dallas Regional Chamber, serves on the board of trustees of the University of Texas School of Law, and on the boards of Parkland Hospital Foundation, Dallas Women's Foundation, the Dallas Hispanic Law Foundation and the Salvation Army. She was recently named one of "The Most Powerful Business Leaders in Dallas-Fort Worth" by D CEO.
