Jones Day's Chiji Offor receives Dallas Association of Young Lawyers 2014 Pro Bono Service Award

June 2014

The Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (DAYL) presented its 2014 Pro Bono Service Award to Chiji Offor, an associate in the Dallas Office of global law firm Jones Day, on June 5th at the DAYL Equal Access to Justice event.

The Award recognizes "public service or legal aid performed by an individual young lawyer who in the previous year has provided outstanding contributions and access to justice to those in need of legal services."

"We've all admired Chiji's extraordinary commitment to his pro bono clients and how successful he's been on their behalf," said Pat Villareal, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's Dallas Office. "We're thrilled to see him receive this richly deserved recognition from the wider legal community."

Mr. Offor, a member of the Intellectual Property Practice focused on patent litigation, works with both individual pro bono clients and non-profit organizations such as Texas Appleseed and Education Open Doors, contributing over 600 hours of service in 2013. Particularly notable last year was his success in a complex three-day federal trial to remedy an international child abduction. The cross-border, multilingual nature of the matter required Mr. Offor to organize a collaboration among several pro bono organizations to finally return a five-year-old to her mother in Mexico. In another case, Mr. Offor secured dismissal of criminal charges against a 13-year-old who had argued with a teacher over a math assignment. Besides his own work, Mr. Offor recruits other young lawyers to perform pro bono services.
