Jones Day welcomes six U.S. Supreme Court clerks to its Chicago, Houston, New York, and Washington offices

November 2013

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that six U.S. Supreme Court clerks from the 2012-2013 Term will join its Issues & Appeals Practice as associates in its Chicago, Houston, New York, and Washington offices. Last year, the Firm hired six clerks from the 2011-2012 Term.

"The competition for this small group of extraordinary young lawyers is always intense, but for the second year in a row, we seem to have attracted more than any other firm," said Beth Heifetz, the Firmwide Partner-in-Charge of judicial clerk recruiting. "I read that as an endorsement of our Firm's highly collegial approach both to the practice and to client service. Our new associates will have access to an extraordinary range of challenging litigation and not just within the District of Columbia. Our clients, who will have access to them, are the ultimate beneficiaries."

"We are thrilled that -- for the second year in a row -- six former clerks from the Supreme Court of the United States have chosen Jones Day as the firm at which to build their careers as lawyers," said Tina Tabacchi, the Chicago-based partner who heads the Firm's worldwide recruiting efforts. "While Washington is an obvious choice for appellate lawyers, we are pleased that several of our recent former Supreme Court clerks have chosen to join us in other U.S. offices -- Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus, Houston, and New York -- a testament to the success of our "one firm worldwide" approach and the ability to offer both our clients and our developing lawyers complete access to all resources and opportunities within the Firm, regardless of venue. We look forward to having these new lawyers join us."

The new arrivals, their office location, the Justices for whom they clerked, and their law schools are as follows:

- Emily Kennedy, Washington, Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr., Duke University School of Law
- David Morrell, Houston, Justice Clarence Thomas, Yale Law School
- Ian Samuel, New York, Justice Antonin Scalia, New York University School of Law
- Kenton Skarin, Chicago, Justice Clarence Thomas, Northwestern University School of Law
