Jones Day tops Financial Times pro bono survey
December 2010
The
Financial Times named Jones Day's "transformative" pro bono work on affordable housing as the outstanding U.S. pro bono project of the year in its U.S. Innovative Lawyers Report 2010, published December 1, 2010. The newspaper noted that the Washington initiative "empowered tenants suffering from housing violations" and "created a template way of processing tenants grievances in the US Superior Court, which has been replicated by other law firms representing similar plaintiffs." Pro bono projects were scored on originality, rationale, and impact.
Also singled out in the
Financial Times report were Jones Day's innovative educational work in California and its international initiatives. In California, the Firm partnered with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to create a program at Sacramento New Technology High School to introduce students to the possibility of a career in the legal profession. Internationally, the
Financial Times noted, Jones Day "assisted Grameen Bank, Room to Read, and Lawyers without Borders on global issues."
