Jones Day ranks #1 in M&A for 12th year in a row

Jones Day ranked #1 globally in M&A league tables for year-end 2011, maintaining a position it has held for 45 consecutive quarters. The Firm also ranked #1 in the United States.
In rankings released this month by Thomson Reuters, Jones Day led all law firms for number of completed M&A deals worldwide, receiving credit for 417 transactions in 2011. The Firm also ranked #1 for completed deals with U.S. targets, receiving credit for 224 transactions.
In Bloomberg's M&A league tables for year-end based on number of announced deals, the Firm ranked #1 in both the global and U.S. rankings, receiving credit for 460 transactions worldwide and 322 deals with any U.S. involvement.
Among the transactions Jones Day's M&A team advised on in 2011 were
Goodrich Corporation's $18.4 billion merger with United Technologies;
The Lubrizol Corporation's $9.7 billion acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway;
Samson Investment Company's $7.2 billion agreement to be acquired by an investor group consisting of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P., Natural Gas Partners, Crestview Partners, and Itochu Corporation;
Texas Instruments' $6.5 billion acquisition of National Semiconductor;
Cliffs Natural Resources' $4.9 billion acquisition of Consolidated Thompson Iron Mines Limited; and
International Coal Group's $3.4 billion acquisition by Arch Coal.
