Jones Day boosts pharmaceutical and medical device team with new litigation partner, José Isasi, in Chicago

May 2013

Washington, DC -- The global law firm Jones Day has announced that José A. Isasi, II, a litigator with two decades of experience in products liability disputes, and extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, has joined the Chicago Office as a partner. He was formerly the Chicago-based vice-chair of Greenberg Traurig, LLP's pharmaceutical, medical device, and health care litigation group.

"José is a seasoned trial lawyer who will further strengthen our already formidable litigation capabilities in the Chicago Office and across the country. He will be a valuable and experienced addition to those trial teams in key health care sectors as the pace and complexity of these disputes continue to grow," said Mickey Pohl, leader of Jones Day's Business and Tort Litigation (BATL) Practice. "We're excited by the additional strength he adds to the practice."

A graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, (J.D, 1992; Editor, Georgetown Immigration Law Journal) and Duke University (A.B., 1989), Mr. Isasi's practice focuses on defending pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers in individual, multidistrict, and class action litigation and counseling clients on strategies to minimize risks and proactively resolve disputes short of litigation.

"We take great pride in the fact that lawyers at the top of their game like José have chosen to join us in Chicago," said Dan Reidy, Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's Chicago Office. "Litigation has always been a strong suit for us, both here and Firmwide, but I know his contributions will be highly valued by clients and colleagues locally and around the world. We are particularly pleased to add José's experience to our broad pharmaceutical and medical device litigation capabilities."

Mr. Isasi has extensive trial experience, having served as lead trial counsel in federal and state jury and bench trials in products liability and commercial disputes across the country. He has also served as lead counsel in numerous complex commercial arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association and other bodies.

Mr. Isasi is the second new partner to join the Chicago Office this month, following Chaka Patterson's arrival from Skadden Arps last week.
