Joe Patiño represents companies in high-stakes commercial and intellectual property disputes. He has argued before the courts of 20 different states and has particular experience with patent litigation-specific proceedings, including before the International Trade Commission, and as special intellectual property counsel in bankruptcy court. Among prominent representations, he successfully defended Bridge Medical by securing a judgment of unenforceability of the asserted patent at trial and a precedential affirmance on appeal (McKesson Info Solutions v. Bridge Medical, 487 F.3d 897).

Joe has represented companies in a variety of industries, including Actiontec, Celgene Corporation, Chinmax Medical Systems, Cricket Communications, Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma, ESET LLC, Huawei Technologies, Hyundai Motor America, Kyocera Corporation, The Procter & Gamble Company, and Prometheus Laboratories.

Joe is committed to pro bono work. He is a board member of the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program (SDVLP), a premier pro bono organization that serves more than 6,500 clients per year in San Diego County. Joe also serves on the advisory board of the ABA's Immigration Justice Project. He has received the Wiley W. Manuel Award for his pro bono contributions.

Joe writes and publishes articles and continuing education materials focusing on patent litigation and practice development issues. In addition to having presented to the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, the Mortgage Bankers Association, and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education, he is an author of Michigan Civil Procedure. Joe is a Master of the J. Clifford Wallace Chapter of the American Inns of Court.
