With over 30 active members of the Florida bar and extensive experience in the state since the 1990's, Jones Day is dedicated to providing high-quality legal services throughout Florida to a wide range of clients. Jones Day tries complex, often highly-publicized cases in trial courts from Pensacola to Miami, handles appeals in every Florida District Court of Appeal and the Florida Supreme Court, and negotiates transactions across the state.
Jones Day's One Firm Worldwide approach to the delivery of legal services ensures that our clients with matters in Florida enjoy seamless access to interdisciplinary teams of lawyers drawn from our offices worldwide with the right knowledge, skills, and experience to solve their problems efficiently and cost-effectively. While Jones Day does not have an office located in Florida, lawyers from several of the Firm’s offices handle matters in Florida on a daily basis, including litigating cases and negotiating transactions.
For example, Jones Day is successfully representing R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in "Engle progeny" cases pending in Florida state and federal courts. These cases arise out of the Florida Supreme Court's decision in Engle v. Liggett Group, Inc., 945 So. 2d 1246 (Fla. 2006), in which the Florida Supreme Court decertified a class of Florida smokers, but upheld certain findings from the class-wide phase of the trial. Over 9,000 plaintiffs now have cases pending in the state, and our lawyers regularly appear in courts throughout Florida on behalf of Reynolds.
The Firm's experience in Florida extends to matters involving the Driver's Privacy Protection Act, CERCLA claims for contribution, and the Florida Asbestos and Silica Compensation Fairness Act.
We also have extensive advisory and transactional experience in Florida, including representing clients in the acquisition of shopping centers, PIPE offerings, and sale and lease-back transactions.
