Dan Reidy is Partner-in-Charge of the Chicago Office. He divides his time approximately evenly between criminal and civil litigation. His civil practice includes matters involving commercial litigation, patent infringement, the False Claims Act (including qui tam lawsuits), partnership disputes, board of director liability litigation, securities law, theft of trade secrets, RICO, SEC and CFTC administrative proceedings and suits, environmental insurance coverage, prior restraints on publication, general commercial litigation, counseling, civil proceedings related to criminal investigations, and the national coordination of pharmaceutical and other product liability defense. Since joining Jones Day, he has been involved in criminal matters concerning allegations of antitrust violations, health care fraud, insider trading, other securities fraud, defense contracting fraud, questioned overseas payments, bank fraud, violations of U.S. export restrictions, mail fraud, ERISA violations, questionable payments to public officials, and numerous other substantive areas.
Dan has extensive trial experience as lead counsel, having tried civil and criminal cases to bench and to jury in state and federal courts representing both defendants and plaintiffs. He has substantial appellate experience, having been lead lawyer on civil and criminal appeals in state and federal courts.
Dan has handled numerous "high-profile" cases and has extensive experience in dealing with both print and electronic media. While he was a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office, he specialized in political and judicial corruption cases and in matters involving allegations of complex financial crimes. He was the lead prosecutor in the "Greylord" judicial corruption project and personally prosecuted a number of judges, lawyers, and court personnel. He also handled numerous cases of public corruption outside the judicial sphere, including the conviction of a Chicago alderman. He was also extensively involved in the personal handling and supervision of complex financial crime prosecutions.
Dan is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is a member of the ABA (Criminal Justice and Litigation Sections), the Federal Bar Association, The Chicago Bar Association, where he served on the board of managers and as an officer, and The Chicago Council of Lawyers. He has taught trial practice to law students and practicing lawyers and has spoken on criminal defense and civil litigation issues at various seminars.
