Criminal Antitrust Investigations & Litigation

A principal participant in the three most significant criminal antitrust proceedings in modern times, Jones Day successfully represents clients against allegations of price fixing, bid rigging, and other forms of anticompetitive conduct viewed by the government as criminal.

As one example, we obtained total amnesty for a global chemical and pharmaceutical products manufacturer and its employees in both the United States and the European Union – making it the first company ever to receive total amnesty in the EU – while other companies facing similar claims paid fines greater than $2 billion and saw their executives head to jail.

In other successes, our lawyers have convinced governments not to bring charges, secured immunity for targets of an investigation, obtained leniency under the Department of Justice’s Amnesty Program, and won acquittals at trial.

We have substantial experience in all phases of the criminal antitrust process, from the pre-grand jury investigative stage to indictments and through trial.
