Chuck retired in 2006 as the executive vice president and general counsel of Reynolds American Inc. He had previously been executive vice president and general counsel of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Holdings, Reynolds American's predecessor, and executive vice president and general counsel of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. After retiring from Reynolds American, he served several months as interim general counsel of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Prior to joining Reynolds in 1985, Chuck was counsel to Caterpillar Tractor Company. He began his legal career in private practice in litigation.
Chuck serves on the board of directors of Swedish Match AB, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and Targacept. He is also a member of the board of trustees of Salem Academy and College.
