Antitrust partner Fiona Schaeffer joins Jones Day in New York

Washington -- The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Fiona Schaeffer, 41, has joined the Firm as a partner in the Antitrust & Competition Law Practice in the Firm's New York Office. Ms. Schaeffer joins Jones Day from the New York office of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, where she was a partner in the Antitrust/Competition Group.

Ms. Schaeffer has extensive experience advising companies in a wide range of industries, and is also known for her depth of experience in the healthcare, financial services, and media sectors.  She counsels corporate and private equity clients on antitrust issues arising in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, distribution arrangements, and other transactions. Ms. Schaeffer frequently serves as global coordinating antitrust counsel for transactions requiring review in the U.S., EU, and other jurisdictions worldwide.  She also represents clients in antitrust litigation, including multidistrict treble damages class actions and private suits in federal and state courts. Ms. Schaeffer practiced for a number of years in Europe (based out of London and Brussels), representing clients in cross border transactions and EU litigation, and is familiar with the inner workings of the EU competition agencies and courts.

Ms. Schaeffer is Co-Chair of the International Antitrust Committee of the ABA's Section of Antitrust Law, Division Chair of Business Regulation I, and Immediate Past Co-Chair for the Antitrust Committee of the ABA's Section of International Law. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Antitrust Section of the New York State Bar Association and has been recognized as a top antitrust lawyer in Chambers USA - America's Leading Lawyers for Business every year from 2005 to 2010, The Legal 500, and the Guide to the World's Leading Competition and Antitrust Lawyers in 2008 and 2009. She also was selected as one of the top “40 under 40" competition lawyers worldwide by Global Competition Review.

Ms. Schaeffer received a Bachelor of Laws degree as well as a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Adelaide in 1992, and a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford in 1994.
