The Real Estate Capital Markets Practice represents a wide range of real estate capital markets participants in their worldwide investment and financing activities including real estate funds, commercial and investment banks, real estate investment trusts ("REITs"), real estate and hospitality companies, and financial institutions and investors. Our services include the acquisition and disposition of individual properties; portfolios of properties and nonperforming loans; real estate mergers and acquisitions; public and private offerings of debt and equity involving REITs and other real estate and hospitality companies; debt securitizations; credit lease and sale-leaseback financings; and real estate equity financing and joint ventures. Our practice is focused on high profile and cutting edge transactions. We work closely with the Firm's leading mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, private equity, tax, and ERISA practices.
Bloomberg has ranked our real estate M&A practice #1 worldwide by number of transactions each year since 2003. Thompson Financial and Bloomberg have ranked our overall M&A practice #1 by number of transactions every year since 2000. We have experience in mergers of both public and private real estate companies as well as going private transactions.
In addition to our significant U.S. and U.K. practices, we have an active real estate capital markets practice in most countries in which Jones Day maintains offices outside the U.S., and have significant cross-border real estate and financing experience. The Firm has been involved in major real estate transactions in numerous countries including the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Sweden, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea. Jones Day received the Real Estate & Construction Deal of the Year Award for 2005 for its work for Morgan Stanley in The Shanghai Square project in Shanghai, China.
